About Us

Joyce Kessler and her son Benji started tutoring in Albany since Benji was a sophomore at Albany High School in 2007, with the philosophy that learning is fun! Joyce began her tutoring career when she was a student at Lowell High School in San Francisco in the mid ‘80s, and later fostered a love for learning in Benji and his sister throughout their lives, and Benji began his tutoring career inspired by his mom. 

Joyce tragically passed away in 2019, and Benji founded Joy Tutoring in 2020 to honor her and continue her legacy

In tutoring, as in every aspect of her life, Joyce poured in seemingly infinite amounts of love, enthusiasm, fun, and joy. The name Joy Tutoring was derived from Joyce’s name, as well as the joy she brought to teaching and learning. Through Joy Tutoring, Benji hopes to continue to bring joy into the lives of students through learning in the way Joyce always did.

We now work with a team of other highly qualified and caring tutors to help students improve their skills and appreciate the joy of learning. At Joy Tutoring we are passionate about education and believe that - through building confidence and happiness - tutoring can do far more than just improve one's grade or test score.
